Dance Photos 2014

We are currently busy with recitals. Last Saturday was the duo's ballet and tap recital, and this Saturday is their piano recital. Those activities, along with softball and a little pesky thing like... school, have been keeping us exceptionally busy. Before all of the craziness kicked off, we checked dance photos off of our to-do list.

A funny little side note about the recital costumes... there are many Pinterest-worthy ways of preserving a dancer's costumes, but we do not have to look into any of those creative solutions for archiving costumes. Instead, the duo wear them. They routinely wear the past year's costumes to dance each week because they love wearing the fancier costumes.

Our recital information instructed parents to have the dancers at the theater in their ballet costumes. After the ballet number, they would change into the tap costume, and then they could change into regular clothes to leave the theater. Well.... That would never do. The duo had to spend the rest of the evening in their ballet leotard, and we are lucky they haven't insisted on wearing it the entire week.

We love some sparkle.

PS: I remember photos from the first year of dance like it was yesterday.

Family Portrait, Spring 2014

This past Sunday Grammie, the trio and I loaded into the family minivan to obtain updated family photos of the trio (and dance photos, but that's another post). Our Botanical Gardens is spectacular this time of year, and we headed to my favorite part of the gardens - the Southern Living Garden. The trio were cooperative, and Grammie provided all sorts of hands on, magical assistance that made it possible to capture a few smiles.

Updated portraits of the children? Check.

My Little Einstein

William George's favorite show is The Little Einsteins, and he watches this show every minute that he is awarded screen time. He can locate my iPad anywhere in the house, access the video selection and select his favorite show. Leo is his favorite character, and he has taken to referring to himself as "Captain Leo," which is ironic considering that he came close to being named Leo. (Skip is a III, and William George, had he followed suit, would have been a IV. We couldn't quite get on board with "Leo Lindsey," couldn't agree on an alternate moniker and settled on William George.)

Enumerated Update

Happy Monday, friends! The state of the state for the Lindseys is as follows:

1) Weekend: We had the usual Dirt Diamonds softball game Saturday morning (yea! another win!), and then Skip was struck with inspiration and decided to stop by the mulch place. That led to us spending the remainder of the weekend completing some much-needed yard work.

2) Photos: Grammie had previously agreed to help with some photos of the trio so, after working Saturday and Sunday, we loaded up in the car Sunday afternoon to go to the Botanical Gardens for dance and family photos. Since during the last 60 days we have purchased a) George's school photo; b) Gracie's school photo; c) Lauren's school photo; d) Gracie's class photo; e) Lauren's class photo and f) softball photos, dance photos became a DIY.  To really get things off on the right foot, I promptly forgot the duo's dance tights and ended up shooting them from the waist up. We can add full shots on the day of the recital.  The gardens are stunning this time of year, and there were at least 8-10 photographers walking around photographing clients.

3) Roof: The impetus for the yard work is that we are having a new roof put on this week. (I'm trying to work up some excitement about this improvement, but I haven't been able to so far.) They were supposed to start this morning but are delayed by a couple of days due to last week's significant weather delay.

Also, the roof was an influential factor in deciding to make the dance photos DIY.

4) Buns: We have the dance recital this Saturday. One thing I learned from the photo session (other than to be sure to pack tights)(although in my defense, I was really tired from the yard work), is that I am rusty on ballerina buns. We will be sporting a bun several times this week in order to brush on my (admittedly limited) bun skills.

Otherwise, the duo are bursting with excitement.

And that's it for us. What is happening with you?

Softball Opening Day 2014

Speaking of opening day yesterday, I realized that the opening day pics were still sitting as a draft item even though our first game was a month ago. Opening day for the Dirt Diamonds was a little chilly, but we persevered by bundling up for our 8:00am arrival to the field. The team marched in to a cheering crowd and joined the entire league on the field for an opening day presentation. The duo quickly realized that they and their friend H, from last year's team, are the smallest players in this new age group. The Dirt Diamonds have a couple of nine year old girls who can knock the ball to the fence, and the duo have really grown as players so far this season. As someone who is not super athletic, it's hard to believe I'm using phraseology about growth, but there you have it. They have really grown.

As for William George? He is a wild man at the park. He loves the playground, meeting the older boys and playing with new friends. He loves every minute of it.

Playing With Cousins

A couple of weekends ago we were blessed to have family in town. Specifically, cousins Riley and Will were here, and the trio were ecstatic when they surprised them at their softball opening day festivities. Because we had them for not one but TWO Saturdays, we got to have some extra time to play. While the duo were playing softball, we cheered them on, and George got to have a little one-on-one time. Obviously, he was in heaven. After the game, we all went to Gran and Papa's where a heated game of kickball was soon underway.

We had a BLAST visiting with family and are looking forward to the next visit.
