Kicking Off Summer

Summer is just kicking off, and we already have illness. I came down with a fever, and am taking it easy over the weekend.

I was scheduled to help with the Acolytes at church Sunday, which also have been George's acolyte debut, but I woke up with a fever instead. Skip bravely stepped in to cover the acolytes, and George selflessly agreed to let Lauren and Grace acolyte so that there wouldn't be the added pressure of working with a new acolyte - although we are certain George would have been WONDERFUL. No question of that.

The trio have been waiting for their first pool day, and Skip took them to the pool today to kick the summer off right. These guys are so awesome, and I am so lucky to have them.

EOY Celebration

In order to celebrate the end of the school year and everyone's excellent performances, the trio picked  one of their favorites - Cheesecake Factory - for a celebratory luncheon.

Kudos to Grace, Lauren and George for working so incredibly hard!

Summer Reading

Do you participate in the summer reading program?

Our entire family participates (even the adults!), and it is very competitive. The girls take it verrrrry seriously.

JCIB Awards Day 2019

The last couple of weeks have been incredibly busy at middle school. There has been the usual homework, and there have been group projects in every class. Lauren and Grace have tried to stay competitive, and they have been working to finish strong.

They have learned the pros and cons of working with a group, and they have learned that when a classmate drops the ball, someone has to do the work or their grade will suffer. Although unfair, in the end, if they want an A, they have to do the work. This has been a tough lesson over the last two weeks. One night Grace was up until 11:30 editing video and making corrections to other's work.  Their hard work has paid off.

When the school year began, we talked with them about expectations... that they might not make all A's in their new, rigorous environment... that they might make B's... that they might even make a C. What we told them has been reinforced by teachers and counselors. The goal of their school is to challenge students, and they instruct students to focus more on the process than the grade they earn.

They worked so hard this year, and they were both ecstatic to receive a letter saying that they would be honored at awards day this morning.

Grace proudly received the A-B Honor Roll certificate. She made all A's and a few B's in math. We are so proud of her diligence and determination.  Outside of grades, she has grown so much over the past year into a confident and capable speaker. She has given so many presentations this year that she is comfortable speaking in front of groups of students.  Gracie also earned "highest average" in her English class.

Lauren proudly received the A Honor Roll certificate. Lauren also earned highest average in her math, science, and social studies classes. She also received a sportsmanship award in PE. Lauren has also worked incredibly hard and has proven herself to be a true leader at her school.

Grace and Lauren, you made it! And we are so proud of you!

Second Grade End-of-Year Party

William George has had a fantastic year in second grade. He was so fortunate to have Mrs. D, the same teacher that Gracie had in second grade. He has done so well... his reading is off the charts, and his test scores have soared. He has thrived in her classroom.

Today was his class party, and he is super excited to begin third grade.

But even more excited about summer.

Citizenship Award

Last year Lauren was honored to received the Citizenship Award at her elementary school. This was incredibly special because there were so many other worthy candidates for such an honor (including Grace) who would have been just as deserving.

Lauren was asked to attend SRE's graduation this year to present the award to this year's recipient. She was so honored to have been asked and so happy to present this award to such a deserving student.

Lauren was so excited to visit with many friends from SRE.

Hard at Work

Y'all... We are in the final days, and Grace and Lauren are working so hard. Currently, they are calculating scientific notation in Advanced Science, and their teacher joked, "I love to make my students suffer."

We are suffering. Joke's over.

Make it end!

Grace, still working at 9:50.

We are soooo ready for summer!

Game Day 2019

George's elementary school was working so hard to try to fit in May Day this year, but with weather and testing, this proved impossible. They got creative and decided to have a school wide play day for students. George went to school today armed with Uno cards and Jenga, and he had a big smile on his face the entire ride to school.

Scouts Promotion

Tonight, after George's baseball game, he had to race to Scouts in time to be promoted from Wolf to Bear.

Congratulations on earning the rank of Bear!

Ballet 2019

This weekend Grace and Lauren performed in their ninth dance recital. They were excited for recital day to arrive, and they were eager to perform.

They have made significant progress with pointe this year, and their ballet performance was much longer this year. They are really happy to grow and improve their technique.  As always, they were thrilled to have their grandparents - Grammie, Gran & Poppa - in the audience cheering for them.

All photos and video are from rehearsal so, unfortunately, there are no photos of them en pointe. The improvement from last year to this year was truly remarkable, and we are so proud.

Grace and Lauren, you were phenomenal, and we love to watch you perform!

Happy recital day!
