2017 Re-Organization

Welcome to 2017!

We are still recovering from the holidays and from traveling, but we are getting ready to hit the ground running in 2017.

When the trio returns to school next week, we will be kicking off a full re-organization/re-set. In doing so, I'll be reaching for my two favorite sources:

First, for the very best of all organizational fantasies, I turn to A Bowl Full of Lemons.  I completed her organizational challenge a couple of years ago, but since then she has published a book, The Complete Book of Home Organization, a book that will either inspire or depress you.

Second, there is my favorite classic, Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook.

This encyclopedic book is an exhaustive guide to maintaining the home, i.e., appliances, furniture repair and maintenance, etc. Like most homes, ours is subjected to some heavy use and could use a thorough round of upkeep.

The re-org schedule looks like this:

  • Week 1 (1/7/17) – Kitchen
  • Week 2 (1/14/17) – Pantry
  • Week 3 (1/21/17) – Dining Room
  • Week 4 (1/28/17) – Launch Pad
  • Week 5 (2/4/17) – Living Room
  • Week 6 (2/11/17) – Master Bedroom
  • Week 7 (2/18/17) – Master Closet
  • Week 8 (2/25/17) – Kids Closets
  • Week 9 (3/4/17) – Linen Closet
  • Week 10 (3/11/17) Bathrooms
  • Week 11 (3/18/17) – Office
  • Week 12 (3/25/17) – Playroom/Toys
  • Week 13 (4/1/17) – Laundry Room
  • Week 14 (4/8/17) – Car
We have our work cut out for us.  We usually joke that it would be far easier to move, and that's the general idea... to clean as if we were moving.

What is on your to-do list for the new year? Any resolutions or re-sets?
