George's Field Trip

Yesterday George's class (+ 3rd through 5th grades) went to see the UAB Women's Basketball team play. Chaperones were not needed for this trip, but I started receiving texts from teachers telling me to watch the news because George had been interviewed.

The clip aired while I was waiting for the girls at dance, but I managed to stream a live feed and film the feed with my iPad (a technology miracle, for sure). George and his friends (plus the many other students who were featured) were so excited to be on the news, and they were fired up about cheering the Blazers on for a win.

Basketball, 2017-2018

We had another great year in basketball. George enjoyed his first year of playing, and the girls had an awesome season that culminated into them playing in the league's championship game. After a nail biting game, they came up one basket short, winning second place in the league. They played hard, and we enjoyed watching them.

We couldn't be more proud of the three of them for working so hard at this sport and for giving it their best.

Basketball (x3)

This past Saturday consisted of two basketball games. George's team had a great game, wherein everyone got to play, shoot some baskets and walk away with a win, 22-0. George was really excited.

George's buddy from baseball executed a beautiful pass, and George took a great shot.

The girls had a tough game. We had some formidable players on the opposing team, and we are learning to live with officiating. Specifically, the referee's son was the coach of our opposing team, and unfortunately, the types of things one would expect from that situation tends to occur.

This is real life, and sometimes it's not fair.

Our girls tend to hold authority figures in the highest of esteem, and we have had to explain that referees are prone to error, just like anyone else. All they can do is play their best game, which is exactly what they did. In the end, they came up two points short.

While shaking hands/congratulating at the end of the game, one of the opposing players called our point guard trash. Someone needs to explain to that girl that "trash talk" shouldn't be literal.  #stayclassy

In the end, these types of games make them tougher.

And we will be ready for this team when we play them again.

Basketball Camp

Last week the trio attending basketball camp each morning, Monday through Thursday. Although they are super active and very limber, they reported soreness in their legs (inner thighs), and they were pretty sore. Also, they were really tired, but that could be because basketball camps (mornings) coincided with VBS (nights). In other words, they were burning the candle at both ends.

Otherwise, they were ecstatic because 1) George was reunited with four really good friends and 2) the girls had a couple of friends there, too. Basketball camp quickly because playdate central, and they ended up with a playdate with one friend Thursday afternoon and three friends for most of the day Friday. At the end of summer when I am out of tricks and ideas, playdates are a lifesaver.

As for camp, they had an awesome time, and George really learned to shoot the ball well. Grace definitely wants to play this winter, and George is eager to try the game. Lauren, however, thinks she is ready to retire and focus on dance and track instead.

Basketball 2016-2017

Are you all wrapped up in March Madness? How's your bracket?

Ok, that's all the lingo I know, but before we leave basketball season behind, I wanted to post an end-of-season update on Basketball 2016-2017.  Most of these photos have been shared on social media previously, but I wanted to capture them here as well.

We had a WONDERFUL season. Coaches Skip and Brent paired up again to lead the 2016-2017 Nuggets, and we had the best group of girls. There were two, first time players, and they did so well. Our girls continued to be scrappy, and we had a great season. (Skip will have to help me remember our final stats.)

Below is a pictorial review of the season. Gracie was #1, and Lauren was #12. The teams alternated between gold/navy, depending on whether or not we were the "home" team.

Fantastic job, Team Nuggets!

These ladies are so awesome... we can't wait for next year.
