Pink

For the longest time, Lauren's favorite color was orange. From approximately six months of age until she was about 2 1/2, orange was her preferred color for animals, cups, everything.

However, pink is the new favorite.

When I am laying out clothing at night for the next day, she always tries to maneuver the clothing so that she is the one wearing pink. Sometimes the pink outfit belongs to Gracie, and her face always falls a little when I explain that it is Gracie who will wear pink. We have learned to offer up some form of pink consolation, in the form of either pink shoes or a pink bow. Even if those accessories do not always match, the concession preserves the peace.

This morning as Skip picked out his clothes, Lauren said, "Wear your pink shirt, Daddy!" She said it like it was the most obvious choice in the world, i.e., when in doubt, always choose pink. As it turns out, Skip owns a lone pink shirt (although Lauren did not know), one that I purchased (on sale) a couple of years ago. Needless to say, Skip was a hero in Lauren's eyes today.
