Vacation 2014

The duo recently had a three day weekend, and we decided to take a quick trip to the beach to say goodbye to the last of our warm weather. We headed south to the Gulf Coast, and we stayed at one of Florida's State Parks. This was a new experience for us, born out of an exasperation over inflated rates during spring break and other three day weekends. We can usually find reasonable options during the summer, but the properties seem to think they "have us" during the very prime weeks.  After last year's spring break and after checking their schedule for the upcoming year, we booked a reservation for a cabin.

We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The accommodations, although spartan, were pristine and actually quite nice. We arrived right at nightfall, and when we turned into the cabin area we saw a very large doe standing in the middle of the street.  At the beach. We knew we were at the right place.

We also saw many, many birds (much to Grace's delight), and Skip saw a large sea turtle swimming in the ocean. The water was as clear and perfect as we have ever seen, and the weather was fantastic. We would give the experience five stars, and we will definitely be booking again.

As far as the trip itself, the duo body surfed, rode the waves, swam, built sandcastles, collected shells and made friends. William George made an impressive show of keeping up with the action. We also dug a hole on the beach. When we later read that digging is verboten (the sea turtles get caught in the holes)(only during certain seasons so the turtles were safe), we ceased/desisted and immediately filled the hole we had dug.  Basically, the trio had a blast, and we only broke a couple of rules that were immediately remedied.
