Spring Break 2015 (Part 1)

Last week we loaded up in the family truckster, as Skip always says, and headed south to the Gulf of Mexico. This was particularly fun because, since the first day of spring, William George has been ticking off the next few holidays sequentially, and excitedly proclaiming, when he arrives at summer break, "And then we go to the BEACH!!!" So surprising them with this trip was fun, and it also took the sting out of Grammie's recent departure (although kudos to her for getting to go home) because whenever they would get sad about her not being here and them not seeing her on the daily, I could say, "...but we are about to spend a week with her at the beach!" Naturally, Grammie had to go to the beach with us after the year she has had.

Upon our arrival (and bear with me on the esoteric details, because this kind of serves as a way to capture our trip for the memory books), we left Grammie and the girls to get settled in our condo while George, Skip and I went out with our grocery list. On that note, we had a wonderful view overlooking the Choctawhatchee Bay, complete with sunset view, as Skip relayed mom's history to the desk clerk, along with his much she enjoys a nice view -- all of which is true. Therefore, our amazing view was brought to us courtesy of an aortic aneurysm.

Anyrate, we stocked up, and then headed out to the girls' favorite restaurant, Cantina Laredo, which has become our tradition for all beach trips to that area. Our city now has a Cantina Laredo, which we have frequented, and it is simply not the same. The menu is different, and some of our favorite dishes are not served here. Therefore, our tradition continues.

The next day, we struck out for the beach and the bracing water of the gulf. The water was approximately 70 degrees, but the hotel pool was only about 65, making the ocean seem warmer. The trio were operating on pure adrenaline and charged in, disregarding their total lack of body fat and its insulative properties. Occasionally, their teeth would chatter, and they would play in the hot sand to warm up. Also, they spent considerable time in the hot tub whenever they stayed in the pool too long.

Also, there was ice cream...

...and the playground...

...and boats.
