Williamsburg + Family

Busch Gardens

We saved the best for last during our DC trip. After checking out of the DC apartment Saturday morning, we excitedly drove to Williamsburg to catch up with family. Before going further, let's pause and contemplate the graciousness of Skip's Uncle Bill and Aunt Kathy for opening their home to us six days after Christmas. During one of the busiest weeks of the year, they were surprisingly up for it. We compared it to that scene in Christmas Vacation, where Clark and Ellen are quietly enjoying their home when the doorbell chimes ominously... and they can hear bickering and arguing on the the other side of the door. Obviously, they were Clark/Ellen, and we were the mixed bag of crazy family.

We had fun catching up Saturday, and we watched the Alabama Crimson Tide dominate Washington. This happened to be New Year's Eve, and the trio played and watched fireworks, courtesy of Bill and Kathy's fantastic neighbors.

William George has been disgruntled over the fact that his sisters have been to Virginia several times, while he had never been. So Sunday morning we took a quick walk through Williamsburg for him to see the sights.

(I had a camera "fail" so the Williamsburg pics are from the iPhone.)

The horses and all of the reenactments were fascinating for the trio.

Also, who can pass up the stocks?

They enjoyed their stroll so much. During our last visit, the girls were a little older than George.

After Williamsburg, we regrouped for lunch, and then a visit to Busch Gardens, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. This is definitely one of the trio's biggest highlights of the trip, and they talk constantly of getting to ride the rides with Reagan and Harper. Hooray for cousins!

Skip has vertigo, and now I have had vertigo since our trip to Sanibel last year. Therefore, Bill saved the day and rode the swings with the kids.

Never too old

The best and final activity at Busch Gardens was Bill gamely riding the boat with our trio and Reagan. Reagan is a little daredevil screaming, "Higher! Higher!" while our duo was screaming for the lives. George went into shock and buried his head into Bill, and poor Bill surely needed a drink to settle his nerves from all that screaming.

We had a WONDERFUL time in Williamsburg, and catching up with everyone was definitely the icing on the cake.  Bill, Kathy, Lori and David, thank you SO MUCH for your hospitality.

PS: Our last trip to Busch Gardens seems like 100 years ago.
