Dr. Seuss's Birthday and Read Across America Week (+ 100 Days of School)

Recently, the kiddoes celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America week.

Cat in the Hat Day

Cat in the Hat Day for the duo and picture day* for William George

A personal favorite was pajama day. Gracie continued to wear Dr. Seuss-like colors, while Lauren never misses an opportunity to demonstrate her Hogwarts pride, even if it mixes topics a little bit.

"I Am NOT Going To Get Up Today"

"One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"

Not shown is crazy sock day and school spirit day because... I forgot to take photos that day.

William George's class spent a full two weeks studying Dr. Seuss books and capped off the second week by dressing as his favorite Dr. Seuss character, having a Dr. Seuss-themed snack and just generally having an awesome time in kindergarten.

George's favorite is the Cat in the Hat.  Naturally.

George's class also had a reading competition to see how many Dr. Seuss books each student could read. George read 60, winning first place and a special prize from Mrs. Shelby. He also got to have a celebratory dinner, and he chose McDonald's. We were so tired from all those tongue-twisters that we had to take a few days off from reading.

One of George's fun celebrations that slipped by me was the 100th Day of School. Each student made a t-shirt, ate 100 snacks and went to the Dollar Tree. George had to earn $1.10 by doing extra jobs around the house so that he could shop. He swept leaves off the porch and deck, he carried the trash out, and he helped clean out the pantry. He also happened to be hosting Brownie, the class bear, during this field trip so we made a matching 100 Days shirt for Brownie, who also had earned $1.10 by folding his clothes and cleaning out his Build-a-Bear box. During the trip, George purchased a light saber/sword, and Brownie picked out a pair of sunglasses.

*Also! Picture day! George looked awesome!
