Weekend Update (+Spring Break recap)

We had a fantastic spring break last week. We kept meaning to plan a small trip for the trio's breaks, but Lauren finally said, "It's just so much work to pack everything." We agreed fully and decided to stay home.  Grace, Lauren and George each made a list of three of four things they wanted to do, and with some light editing (i.e., I vetoed shopping trips and lobbied for activities/experiences instead.) we had a solid list. Here's how it broke down.

Monday: We went to the library for new books and movies, and then we went to the park.  At one point Lauren asked, "Can I always come to the playground? Will I ever be too old?" Grace pledged her eternal love to the playground, and we agreed to make a point to keep the playground in regular rotation until it loses its appeal (tear wipe).

Thank goodness we have this little guy to keep the playground at the top of our to-do lists.

Speaking of things we're outgrowing, George reflexively ran to the window when I told him the garbage truck was coming, but then he turned away... The garbage truck used to be a highlight of his day.

Because George hasn't outgrown early mornings (he's up with the sun... daily... regardless of holidays/breaks), he and Pixie would watch some early morning cartoons each day.

So on Tuesday we had planned to go to the zoo. However, some neighborhood friends stopped by for an impromptu playdate, and time got away from us. We played games, rode bikes and had a massive nerf war in the basement.  In short, our time was well spent, and we can always see the animals another time.

By Wednesday, the trio were ready for some grandparent time. They spent the day with Gran and Poppa during which time they rode scooters, played outside and ate like royalty.

We had Grammie over Thursday for a sleepover.  We had a delicious lunch, and then a marathon session of board games. Grace totally schooled Grammie in the Game of Life. We also had a belated birthday dinner for her that night (more later) and went out for breakfast the next morning. The trio voted for Cracker Barrel, and even Skip took the day off and came along.

The trio returned to Gran and Poppa's for a visit, while Skip and I had a day date.  We explored Railroad Park, had lunch and did some shopping.

The trio were intrigued by Railroad Park so we returned over the weekend with them. They had scooters and bikes, and had a wonderful time.

What to do if you find yourself on a perfect weather day without a bike? You rent a Zyp bike! Although they have been around for years, it was my first experience with Zyp. Skip splurged on the pedal assist model which was AWESOME. I literally climbed hills in two pedals.  It was a glimpse of my Vespa dream, and I (again) so wish our city was more bike-friendly. I would totally bike to the library and other small errands.

Warning: Do not, under any circumstance, operate this machine without the full intent of having a good time. Those who consent to ride this cycle are committing to being part of a community effort to continually move this city forward. Frequent smiling, waving, and laughing is extremely encouraged for any and all riders. Enjoy the ride.

Any who... the trio had a great time riding in "the city" and attempting to navigate the street and paths, dodging pedestrians and all sorts of obstacles. They had a good time.

After riding for a few hours, we needed to re-fuel at a family favorite.

We also had baseball practice (x3), games and movie night. All in all, it was a wonderful and much needed break.

And we didn't have to pack.
