Weekend Update

Happy Monday, and happy MLK day!

By way of update, last Tuesday when it was time for everyone to return to school, Lauren was unable to attend due to a high fever (104). Grace and George returned to the classroom while Lauren went for pediatric examination. She has a virus - a nasty one, and has been running a fever for nine straight days. She missed all last week, and Grace helped her stay current by bringing home her assignments and returning her completed work. All of Lauren's friends have been so sweet and have been very concerned. Her class sent a "get well" card, and some friends sent some trinkets and notes. She is very lucky to have such good friends, and even luckier to have a sister (and brother!) take such good care of her. Currently, we are waiting to see if her fever spikes this afternoon, as it has over the last nine days, usually reaching the 103 - 104.5 range. If so, we will need to trek back to the doctor tomorrow, and that will mean more missed school. Since she has now been out of school one whole month (extended winter vacation + sick time), she is most eager to return.

Lauren has a special friend, C, who we try not to tease her too much about. His mom texted me last Friday to say that he has been very concerned about her, and they were wondering what was wrong.

Saturday morning, Skip took Grace and George to the girls' basketball game, while Lauren stayed home. After the game and for the rest of the weekend, we have watched movies, have played many rounds of Life, and have read. Lauren has gotten lost in a couple of Nancy Drew Mysteries, and that has helped pass the time. Of course, we also had to dust off our copy of Nancy Drew, which despite its Rotten Tomatoes score, our children love.

While we were ready to hit the ground running in 2016, we have been stalled a little. But we are hoping things get back to normal this week.
