First Day of Summer

Lauren and Grace have been really good sports about George's school year... with the countless parties, field trips and activities.  When they looked at George's graduation gift (a build-a-bear) a little longingly (although they got a couple of new outfits for their bears when George received Brownie), I suggested that maybe we could have a family field trip to Build-a-Bear Workshop on the first day of summer. However, because they had gotten a small gift for George's graduation, the deal was that they would need to use their own money for any purchases. They were totally up for it.

On the first day of summer, we got up, had breakfast and dropped Pixie at the groomer. Skip had planned to take half a day off, and was contemplating going with us. I was a little nervous about that because I had ordered a camera, as a rental, to try out as part of my research in buying a new camera. The rental was scheduled for delivery, and a signature would be required. Finally, he admitted that he would be just fine having the afternoon at home and could be in charge of picking up Pixie and signing for the camera, leaving us free to have our outing guilt-free.

We got to the mall, and George was very officially showing the girls all around BABW until they reminded him that they have been there previously. The trio spent about 30-45 minutes carefully reviewing all of the clothing and making some summer selections. We then took a quick tour of the hotel (so fancy!) for a bathroom break, and they opted for Subway for lunch. To conclude, they rode the carousel, and their smiles while doing so made me realize they had almost completely recreated George's class's BABW field trip.

Elementary school, why do you have to eliminate all of the fun things?

Wait, no, I did remind them of the field trip to the capitol and Human Hungry Hippo and fruit bowls! But sometimes a girl needs to buy clothes for her bear and have her mom treat lunch.

After BAB, they rested for a bit and then went to a tennis clinic/party. Their tennis coach has put together a night each month this summer where her class will have a one hour lesson, break for pizza and then have another 30 minutes of games. They loved it!

We are sooo excited for summer!
