Weekend Update

An animal birthday party

We had one of those busy, productive weekends. After work Friday, Skip did a lot of yard work that was needed after our vacation + a few rainy days that kept him from doing it sooner. While he worked on the grass (that was so thick and unruly after the monsoons that it needed to be cut twice), we cooked and had a great taco night.

Pixie was allowed to bring a guest

The next day Skip's parents brought by an old truck they had purchased for doing yard work and other jobs (mostly of the mulch hauling variety), and we spent the day restoring the truck to its former glory. Weirdly, the truck windows had a very dark tint, and after Skip had detailed the truck we removed the tint. You wouldn't think that would be difficult, but apparently there were two coats of tint (a professional tint job and then an unprofessional - dare I say "botched?" - job over it). We spent a few hours scraping that off with razor blades, and it finally worked.  It looks like a completely different vehicle! The trio had fun cleaning out the bed of the truck so it really was a family affair.

That night after dinner we had an impromptu visit with our neighbors from a street over, when they were out for a stroll. The trio loved seeing their friend Preston, and we enjoyed catching up.

The trio were mesmerized watching Rafael Nadal win his tenth French Open Sunday morning. (Tennis update soon.) We had a visit with Grammie and Lexie, and then the trio had a play date with our neighbor, whose mom had thoughtfully set up a water slide. (Tip: She found this one  on sale last year and purchased it instead of paying the same amount for a one-time inflatable rental.) Even the girls, who are older, still enjoy it, and it is designed for kiddos up to age 12.  They loved it, and we were inspired to purchase a new pool for the season. Otherwise, I don't think they will be able to spend much time out in the heat.

After a tiring few hours of play, we started a familiar Sunday night routine of packing backpacks and lunches, except for swim camp instead of school. They were very nervous about returning to swim camp (where they do not "know" anyone), but admittedly were excited, too.

How was your weekend?
