Vacation: the lake, wildlife and scenery

After exhausting some of the village activities during our vacation, we discovered that the lake area, beach, playground and paddle boats were a simple lift ride away. We opted for the shuttle because the girls wanted to ride the "school bus".

Below is a truly idyllic napping or reading location. The girls allowed us to occupy the hammocks for approximately three minutes before charging the playground. If you have the space and the trees, I highly recommend recreating this resting space in your own back yard.

A new playground is always fun to explore:

Taking a rest, albeit brief, is nice, too.

Skip taught the girls how to skip rocks.

And, we played a quick game of horseshoes.

After dinner each night we would take a drive with the windows down to look at the sights.

There were only two small grocery stores; one was there in the village, with a very meager selection, and the other was actually a gas station at the village entrance. This is the view of Snowshoe from the gas station lot.

We would take a nightly walk to look at the ski lifts, the wildflowers and deer.

Here are the girls waiting patiently for the deer to return. They didn't seem to understand why their shrieking laughter would frighten the herd.

The ubiquitous deer could be seen everywhere: in parking lots, running across empty slopes, slowly navigating across the street, etc.

The best aspect of these nightly drives was climbing to the top of the mountain, aptly named "Top of the World," to watch the sunset.

After taking some photos of the mountains, I looked over and saw Gracie taking her own "pretend" pics.

Lauren didn't want to miss catching the sunset either. Needless to say, cameras are now at the top of their Christmas lists.

A view of the village from the top of the mountain.

Below is a shot of the Honda Pilot parked next to the helicopter pad. She looks very stately and completely at home in the mountains. She is ready to return on a moment's notice -- as are we.
