Fifth Grade Field Trip: 4H

Last month Lauren and Grace's fifth grade class had an overnight field trip to 4H. By a stroke of luck, they also got to attend last year as fourth graders because last year's fifth grade class was so small.  Since I went with them last year, Skip went with them this year.

Or, as he enjoyed telling everyone, he said to me last year, "Oh, hey, going to 4H on an overnight trip sounds so fun!"

"And now here I am on the trip this year!"

He got a lot of laughs.

The gorgeous views were still the same, but they mixed it up by having different sessions.  First, they put on waders and went into the water to find invertebrates.

Next, they went canoeing. They had a good time and raced (and won!) a group of boys.

After dinner that night, they had a bonfire and then went to the gym for a heated game of newcomb.

The next morning, they had a survival session, where they learned to build a shelter and start a fire.

Like last year, Skip said the counselors were amazing, informative and very good with the kids. If you have an opportunity to check out a 4H center, be sure to do so.

We are looking forward to George's trip!
