George: Christmas Around the World

George's second grade class has a big Christmas Around the World project this month, where each student is assigned a country and prepares and presents a report explaining how Christmas is celebrated in that country. George was assigned France, and he couldn't wait to tell Lauren, who is a total Francophile, all about it.

Lauren helped George find some resources about Christmas in France, and she even wrote a two page report of her own.  "For fun," she said.

George organized his topic (outline) and wrote his report the weekend before his project was due. He also printed out some visuals, cut them out and glued them on his trifold, that he had picked out himself. He spent some time practicing delivery... and then he got sick (fever, cough) and missed two days of school. After a visit to the doctor and some meds, he was right back on schedule and ready to deliver his presentation as scheduled. Lauren and Grace (who had also worked on end-of-semester papers and projects) kept telling him how lucky he was that he did the work early. He was pretty pleased with himself for not procrastinating.

On his first day back to school, he delivered his presentation. He said he received a lot of applause, but he also said that was because he brought food to share as part of his talk.

Joyeux Noel!
