Birthday update, first installment

Gracie and Lauren have been talking about their birthday for the last six months.  Turning five has been a big deal for them since the day they turned four.  They were absolutely giddy the two weeks leading up to the party, and both of their teachers commented about how excited they were.  Who could possibly sit in their seats and listen when there is a party to consider??!!

Saturday morning, as their eyes fluttered open, they started talking about their party.  They wanted to get dressed right away.  They were so excitable that Skip took them outside to walk/run around for a bit because he didn't think they would be able to sit in the car for the commute.

The cake, a topic of great discussion, barely even registered.  Gracie wanted a Sleeping Beauty party, whereas Lauren wanted a Cinderella party.  The bakery added Arial and Belle, a detail that went completely unnoticed by the normally scrutinizing duo.

The party was at iJump, and they were ready to hit the inflatables as soon as they arrived.  We were able to lure them onto the birthday throne for a quick photo.

From then on, they were a blur.  They were so excited to get to visit and jump with their friends (not pictured -- I never know how people might feel about their children's pics being posted).  They loved it!

They enjoyed lunch and the birthday cake.  Of course, Lauren told me she "doesn't like cake," but we talked her into having the cake in front of her for a photo op.

Then... it was present time!  This is when the chaotic train went right off the tracks.  The frantic jumping was one thing, but the craziness of opening gifts in the 15 minute window we had left was just too much.

Then again, expecting a five-year-old birthday party to be a civilized affair is probably unrealistic.

All in all, they had a blast!  They enjoyed visiting with their family and getting to play with their friends.

As an added bonus, we made it to the party with the balloons! The large Cinderelle balloons met with an untimely demise on the ride home, but we were were able to recover her and tape her back together to minimize Lauren's shock.

Now that we have the 5th birthday "in the books," Lauren is saying, "I'll be six next... Next time I'm gonna be six..."
