Learning to Drive

Recently, we got out the Jeeps for a neighborhood drive.  When Santa brought these Jeeps to us two and a half years ago, the girls were ecstatic.  Learning to drive them was tricky, and Gracie seemed plagued with hesitation.  For the longest time, she was happy to ride as Lauren's passenger.  We encouraged her and got her comfortable driving in the circle in front of our house.

We decided to work on one of our longstanding goals:  driving to the end of the street and back.  William George provided emotional support.

Uncharacteristically, Lauren was not up for the drive.  She abandoned her Jeep and was far happier riding shotgun with George.

Gracie, although nervous, took off.  She kept looking back to make sure we were with her.  She seemed concerned that she would take a wrong turn and somehow end up on a busy street -- or the highway!

We stayed with her, cheering her on.

And we congratulated her when she reached her goal.  We were proud of her, and she was happy to have conquered driving on our street.

This was a happy day.
