Enumerated Update

Hello, friends! How was your weekend?

We had opening day for the duo's softball season, as well as their first game.  More on that later.

1)  Cable: I forgot to mention this last week.  We pay a fortune for cable service, although we never watch television.  Over the past five years (at least), we have gone back and forth on disconnecting service altogether.  This issue was complicated by the pesky development a few years ago of all service going digital.  We finally terminated service, and we have not missed having access at all.  In fact, if Skip had contacted our cable provider and not told me, I wouldn't have even known.  That's $92.00 we won't be spending for a service we never use.  Woot!

Of course, if we had terminated service, say, five years ago, we would have saved $5,520.00, but let's don't think about that.

Also, don't be afraid to come visit.  Skip's parents had an antenna, and we have a whopping 24 available channels for your viewing entertainment. We haven't checked to see how well they work, but we feel optimistic that it's all entirely workable.

2)  Preschool:  Last month we registered William George for preschool next fall.  The duo started their academic careers with K2, although George is starting much younger due to his summer birthday.  He is currently a sponge, picking up anything and everything, and we think two mornings a week will be beneficial for him.

This week I ran across a preschool alternative in Scholastic's Parent & Child that I wanted to share.  If there are obstacles (monetary or otherwise) to sending  your child to preschool, chalkpreschool.com is an alternative that is based on the curriculum of schools in Chicago.  The site contains 8,000 videos that promote the learning of letters, numbers, patterns and more.  The cost - at $20 per month - is considerably more economical than traditional preschool tuition.

3)  Google Reader: Currently, there are 640 unread items pending in my Reader, and I don't subscribe to that many sites.  The debate over whether to catch up or simply mark them all as "read" is playing out in my head.

4) Domino: I have good news and bad news.  Domino magazine has released a new issue (yay!), but the material is mostly recycled.  Domino's return to the shelf is short-lived and consists of two special issues released in 2013 at $11.00/issue.  Read more about Domino's keepsake editions here.

5) Before Midnight: Two good pieces of news.  First, an official trailer for Before Midnight has been released (see below).  Second, the movie hits theaters May 24th.

There's the possibility this is only good news for me, but I hope you're planning to see the movie, too.

Skip is trying to ruin this movie for me by pointing out that director Richard Linklater also directed Dazed and Confused

And that's about it for us.

What's happening with you?
